Fleener Chimney Area Closed
Due to increased wasp activity the Fleener Chimney is closed effective August 3, 2026, until further notice.
Fire Restrictions in Effect
NPS detailsAll campfires and open flames are prohibited throughout the monument, including in Indian Well campground. Devices that burn wood, charcoal, pellets or biomass are not allowed. Gas or pressurized stoves (propane, butane or similar are permitted if they have a shut-off valve.
Schonchin Butte Closure
NPS detailsSchonchin Butte Road and Trail are closed to all traffic when the gate is closed, due to maintenance work occurring at the fire lookout.
White-Nose Syndrome / Cave Permit
NPS detailsPlease Do Not bring clothing or caving gear used in caves or mines outside of Lava Beds into our caves. This will help slow the spread of white-nose syndrome, a bat disease that is killing bats outside of the park.
