Cultural Connections in the Park: The Burnurwurbskek Singers

 

The Cultural Connections in the Park series occurs on select Wednesdays from June through September. The Burnurwurbskek singers are a men’s drum group from the Penobscot Tribal Nation at Indian Island, Maine. This group has been performing traditional Wabanaki songs for audiences across Maine and other states for many years. This performance on top of Wapuwoc, or the “white mountain of the first light,” is a cultural demonstration that will captivate audience members of all ages. All Cultural Connections programs are sponsored by Dawnland, LLC, are offered in partnership between Acadia National Park and the Abbe Museum, and are free and open to the public. In addition to a park pass, vehicle reservations are needed to access the Cadillac Summit Road for this program. You may request sign language, live audio description, assistive listening devices, or other accommodation for any scheduled park event or program at Acadia by contacting us at least 10 days in advance. Costumed demonstrations

 

Costumed demonstrations 2026 program dates: June 5 to August 30- Fridays through Tuesdays September- Saturdays and Sundays Costumed rangers conduct a variety of program offerings that vary from day to day. They include stone cutting, rope making and natural dyes. They are generally held between 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the morning and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon. The programs are weather and staff dependent. For additional information and to find out what program is offered on the day of your visit, please inquire at the visitor center or call 814-886-6150. Fort DeRussy Civil War Hike: Defending the Capital

 

Join a ranger for a guided hike to Fort DeRussy , a Civil War site in Washington, DC. As you walk through the wooded landscape of Rock Creek Park, you’ll uncover how this fort helped protect the nation’s capital during a time of conflict. Along the way, learn about the soldiers who lived and worked here and the challenges they faced while stationed in the field. At the fort, explore the earthworks that still stand today and imagine what life was like inside this military post. Rangers will share stories of daily routines, military strategy, and the experiences of those who served here. This hike offers a chance to experience history where it happened while connecting with the natural landscape that surrounds it . This program begins at the Rock Creek Park Nature Center.

Lemon House Tours 2026 program dates: June 5 to August 30- Fridays through Tuesdays September- Saturdays and Sundays Staff dependent, a park ranger is available from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the morning and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon to greet visitors and answer questions about the tavern and its operations during the days of the Allegheny Portage Railroad. No reservations are required. The Lemon House is open Fridays through Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
