    The Bunsen Peak Road Ski Trail is a 6-mile (9.6-km) one-way, occassionally groomed, easiest to most-difficult trail with two trailhead options. The easier of the two options requires a snow coach drop-off.     The Snow Pass Ski Trail is a 4.2-mile (6.76-km), skier-tracked easiest to most difficult one-way ski that takes skiers through a heavily forested area to wide open views of Swan Lake Flats. To get to the Snow Pass Ski Trail take the short connector trail that joins from the upper end of the Upper Terrace Loop Ski Trail. Guided Tours of Rileys Lockhouse

 

Explore the life of a lockkeeper and family in the 1870's time period with a guided tour of one of the C&O Canal's original lockhouses. Girl Scouts offer free tours of the lockhouse and grounds at Lock 24. In addition, there may be various Victorian Era demonstrations such as laundry, cider pressing, making lemonade, churning butter or ice cream and more. Visitors are welcome to participate in the activities and taste the results. Open every Saturday and Sunday 1pm-4pm, March 21 st through July 12 th and August 16 th through December 12 th . The lockhouse will be closed for bad weather.

Come join a Ranger at Sunset Point for a rim walk toward Sunrise Point. The talk will be on a random topic of the ranger's choosing, covering natural, cultural, or historical resources. Visitors meet Ranger at alcove to the right of Sunset Point overlook. This program will be cancelled by thunderstorms, extreme cold weather, or staffing shortages. Wheelchair Accessible.

Cape Cod National Seashore

Highland Light

 

The original Highland (Cape Cod) Light was constructed in 1797, making it the first lighthouse on Cape Cod. The current 1857 tower is the third on the site, and recently underwent a major rehabilitation. Tours and bookstore operated by seashore partner, Eastern National. The site is open 9 am-5 pm, staffing permitting. The last tour of the day takes place at 4:30 pm. Children must be at least 48" tall to climb the lighthouse due to the height of the stairs and ladders. No exceptions. Climbers who are 17 years old or younger must be accompanied by someone 18 years of age or older. To keep hands free for handrails, no person may be lifted or carried. Food, drinks, and bulky personal items (e.g. backpacks, tripods) should be left in your vehicle in the parking area. Shoes are required. Closed-toed shoes are recommended. Flip-flops are not allowed. Pets are not allowed in the Keeper’s Shop and Lighthouse Tower.

Explore the world of hybrid animals! Did you know that the mules that used to pull boats along the C&O Canal were hybrid animals? Mules are a cross between a horse and a donkey and inherit the best parts of each of their parents, just like many other animals. Visit with a park ranger to learn about hybrid animals, what they are, and their animals superpowers. You can even create your own hybrid animals!

Cumberland Terminus Ranger Talk

 

Visitors are invited to join a short tour and talk at the Cumberland Terminus Visitor Center exploring the history of the Potomac River corridor as a vital transportation route through the Appalachian Mountains. The program highlights the active years of the C&O Canal while also examining the people, trade, and ideas that moved through the region before the canal was built and after its operations ended. Through stories of transportation, industry, and daily life, participants will gain a broader understanding of the canal’s role in shaping the region’s history.

Abner Cloud House Tour

 

Built in 1801 by Abner Cloud, Jr., the house is considered one of the finest examples of Federal architecture in Washington D.C. Pre-dating the construction of the C&O Canal, the home of Abner Cloud served as the center of the family farm and fishing business. Tour the Abner Cloud House and learn more about early 19th century farming, architecture, and the people who lived and worked on the property. The three-story, stone home is operated in parntership with The Colonial Dames of America and is open for tours on the first Sunday of each month from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm. The Abner Cloud House is located at Fletchers Cove . Admission to Fletchers Cove and the Abner Cloud House is free.
