    Follow the brown posts into the heart of the Valle Grande. This 0.8-mile (1.3 km) out-and-back hike will lead you to a constructed pond on La Jara Creek which served as a water source for cattle and sheep when this land was a private ranch.     Hike the Cerro La Jara Loop · Valles Caldera National Preserve

    This 1.5-mile (2.4 km) loop trail circles Cerro La Jara, the smallest volcanic dome in the park, which formed about 500,000 years ago when lava oozed up and onto the caldera floor. South Mountain, to the west, and Cerro del Medio, on the opposite side of Valle Grande, are also volcanic domes and can be seen from this trail. Geology Overview

 

Discover fascinating fossils and evidence of ancient ecosystems with a ranger in this 20-30 minute talk. throughout the summer. Meet at the Quarry Exhibit Hall shuttle stop to learn more about the processes that have shaped today's landscape. Please Note : Program topics can change due to unforeseen schedule changes. Programs may also be canceled due to adverse weather, for visitor or employee safety, or because of staffing shortages caused by emergencies such as fire or medical conditions.

This talk takes place at the Quarry Exhibit Hall shuttle stop on the Jensen, UT side of the park. Visitors can take a 5-minute shuttle ride from the Quarry Visitor Center to the Exhibit Hall to hear the talk. Visitors with pets or accessibility needs should ask a ranger for directions to drive a personal vehicle to the Exhibit Hall.

The selected film will vary: Forces of Change tells the complex and dynamic story of Glacier Bay, and Beneath the Reflections (2025) dives into the underwater world of the Bay. Available to play upon request , ask the park ranger on duty between 11:30 am and 5:00 pm.

Guided Walk: Forest Loop Trail

 

Walk with a ranger to track the “footprints” left by a glacier and discover hidden stories of Glacier Bay’s forests and shore. Walk will take about 90 minutes, one mile walk, easy. A self-guiding walk is available at any time using the NPS App. Note: If you are departing Bartlett Cove for a flight after the walk ends at 3 pm and have a tight turnaround, inform the ranger before the walk starts and they will work to accommodate your timing.

Join a park ranger for daily presentations in Bartlett Cove! Hear from a National Park Service Ranger at the Glacier Bay Lodge Theater (upstairs) for a deep dive into what makes Glacier Bay special. Programs begin at 6 pm, typically lasting about 30 minutes. Ranger will depart at 7:00 pm after the program, although the Glacier Bay Lodge front desk remains open 6 am - 11 pm. Program topics vary nightly: See weekly flyer posted at the lodge or on the Glacier Bay Event Calendar webpage.
