Guided Hikes on the Islands

 

On days that the concessionaire boats run to the islands, guided hikes may be offered by national park rangers, volunteers, or concessionaire naturalists. If they are not available to lead hikes, self-guided interpretive trail booklets are available. Guided hike locations, distances, and departure times will be announced after your arrival on the island during the visitor orientation. Please check with a ranger, volunteer, or concessionaire employee for more information.

Discover fascinating fossils and evidence of ancient ecosystems with a ranger in this 20-30 minute talk. throughout the summer. Meet at the Quarry Exhibit Hall shuttle stop to learn more about the processes that have shaped today's landscape. Please Note : Program topics can change due to unforeseen schedule changes. Programs may also be canceled due to adverse weather, for visitor or employee safety, or because of staffing shortages caused by emergencies such as fire or medical conditions.

This talk takes place at the Quarry Exhibit Hall shuttle stop on the Jensen, UT side of the park. Visitors can take a 5-minute shuttle ride from the Quarry Visitor Center to the Exhibit Hall to hear the talk. Visitors with pets or accessibility needs should ask a ranger for directions to drive a personal vehicle to the Exhibit Hall.

Nature Walk: Learn About Longleaf!

 

Join Ranger Nathan for a family-friendly stroll on the Longleaf Pine Trail! Explore one of Big Thicket's most exciting ecosystems, the longleaf pine uplands, and check out the plants and animals that call it home. Along the way, learn how the preserve uses many tools to restore this area—including fire! The walk is 1 mile roundtrip. Participants will have a chance to explore on their own after the program ends. Meet at the visitor center flagpole. All ages welcome; no reservations required.
