2 days · Bar Harbor
Weekend · Fall
“Plan a fall weekend in Acadia with sunrise, scenic drives, easy-to-moderate walks, and the best autumn atmosphere.”

Overview
A two-day fall sightseeing weekend pairing sunrise and ocean scenery with woodland color and pond views. Assumes arrival the preceding evening, two full sightseeing days and a car available locally; Bar Harbor is the recommended overnight base.
Early to mid-October is a good general target for foliage, not a guarantee of peak color. Follow signed road directions on Park Loop Road and allow extra time for parking and unhurried stops.

Things to Know
Confirm road access, trail conditions and seasonal services for your actual dates. Cadillac’s sunrise drive requires the applicable vehicle reservation during its reservation season; check the date-specific requirements on the official Cadillac driving page. If sunrise access is unavailable, substitute a coastal dawn outing on an accessible section of Ocean Path rather than attempting a difficult predawn hike. Check Acadia alerts for Ocean Path repair limits and other changes. Bring an appropriate park entrance pass. Do not rely on the seasonal Island Explorer without confirming its dates and schedule. Pack layers, rain protection, grippy shoes and picnic supplies; shorter fall daylight rewards keeping the afternoons flexible.
- Road travel times are shown for planning. Shuttle/private-vehicle access depends on your travel dates; check access rules before setting out.
- Seasonal access, reservations and conditions change; confirm them for your dates.

I planned two full sightseeing days, using Bar Harbor as the suggested base:
- Day 1: Cadillac sunrise, coastal scenery and a leisurely Park Loop Road outing.
- Day 2: Woodland color, Jordan Pond and a cozy autumn finish in town.
This balances Acadia’s dramatic coast with its quieter fall atmosphere, without strenuous summit hikes. Aim for early to mid-October for a good chance of colorful foliage; peak timing varies each year.
I assumed you arrive the evening before and have a car available locally. Cadillac’s sunrise drive depends on road access and the applicable vehicle reservation; confirm those for your dates. The saved plan includes a coastal sunrise fallback. There is also a current repair closure on southern Ocean Path, so check park alerts before walking it.
Share your dates and whether Sunday includes travel home, and I can tailor the weekend’s timing.
